The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, has invited applications from students for admission to four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) Programme of Academic Year 2011. This is an innovative course being launched by IISC from 2011.

ELIGIBILITY:

(i) II PUC / 12th Standard (completed in 2010 or completing in 2011)
(ii) First class or 60 % or equivalent grade (pass class for SC/ ST)
(iii) Must have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as main subjects in their II PUC/12th Standard. (iv) Candidates who have studied Biology, Statistics, Electronics, Computer Science, etc., should also have taken Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

Selection will be based on the merit lists of one of the following national examinations:
•KVPY-SA (2009 fellows)
•KVPY-SB (appeared in 2010)
•KVPY-SX/SB+2 (appeared in 2010)
•IIT-JEE (appearing in 2011)
•AIEEE (appearing in 2011)
•AIPMT (appearing in 2011)

APPLICATION FORMS (any of the following two methods):
1) Off-line application - Available from 01-01-2011.
Request an application form with two address slips, with candidates mailing address clearly written (preferably stickers), and a Demand Draft (in favour of "Registrar, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore" ) for Rs. 600/- for GN/OBC/KM candidates (Rs.300/- for SC/ST/PH categories, along with a copy of an appropriate certificate) to the Deputy Registrar (Academic), Admissions Unit, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore 560 012. Filled-in applications must be sent to Dean, Undergraduate Programme, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore — 560 012.

2) Online application—Available at www.iisc.ernet.in/ug with effect from 01.01.2011.
Online application fee is Rs. 400/- for GN/OBC/KM candidates and Rs. 200/- for SC/ST/PH candidates. After submitting the online application, a printed copy of the filled online application along with a Demand Draft must be sent to Dean, Undergraduate Programme, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore — 560 012.

Last date for submission of online applications is 25.03.2011and for submission of both off-line application form and printed copy of online application form is 31.03.2011

The All India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Entrance Examination, 2011 for admission to the 15% All India Quota seats for MBBS/BDS courses 2011, in the Medical/Dental Colleges of India, as specified in the directive of the Supreme Court of India will be conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education, Delhi in two stages in April and May 2011.

Preliminary Examination: The first stage of the entrance examination, the Preliminary Examination to be held from 10 am to 1 pm on April 3, 2011 (Sunday), would consist of one paper of 3 hours duration containing 200 objective type questions from Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany & Zoology). Each question will be followed by four options with single correct answer which is to be marked on the specially designed machine-gradable sheet using Ball Point Pen only.

Final Examination: The Final Examination for those who qualify in the Preliminary Examination, to be held from 10 am to 1 pm on May 15, 2011 (Sunday), would also consist of one paper of 3 hours duration with 120 objective type questions from Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany & Zoology). Each question will have four options with single correct answer, to be marked on the specially designed machine-gradable sheet using Ball Point Pen only.

Language of Question Paper: Candidates can opt for Question Papers either in English or in Hindi. This option should be exercised while filling in the Application Form and the same cannot be changed later.

Centres of Examination: The Preliminary Examination would be held at Itanagar  (Code-01),Agartala (02), Port Blair (03), Shillong (04), Imphal (05), Panaji (06), Puducherry (07), Guwahati (08), Trivandrum  (09), Cochin  (10), Bhubaneshwar (11), Chennai(12), Patna (13), Ranchi  (14), Mumbai (15), Nagpur (16), Ahmedabad (17), Shimla (18), Lucknow (19), Noida (20), Dehradun (21), Chandigarh (22), Delhi (23), Kolkata (24), Bangaluru (25), Bhopal (26), Raipur (27) and Jaipur (28). 

The final Examination will be held at Cochin  (51), Bhubaneshwar (52), Chennai (53), Ranchi (54), Mumbai (55), Lucknow  (56), Delhi (57), Kolkata (58), Bhopal (59) and Jaipur (60)

Candidate should select three cities for Preliminary Examination and two city codes for Final Examination.

ELIGIBILITY:
Nationality and Age: Applicant should be an Indian National and should have completed 17 years at the time of admission or should be completing the age on or before 31st December, 2011. Upper age limit will be 25 years as on 31st December, 2011. This would be relaxed by 5 years for Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes/Other Backward Classes. So, applicants should have been born on or between 1.1.82 and 1.1.95 in case of SC/ST/OBC Category and on or between 1.1.87 and 1.1.95 in case of all other categories.

Qualifying examinations: Applicant should have passed any one of the following qualifying examinations

(i) Higher/Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination which is equivalent to 10+2 Higher/Senior Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years study, the last two years of such study with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology (which shall include practical tests in these subjects) and Mathematics or any other elective subject with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training after introduction of the 10+2+3 educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education

(i) The Intermediate/Pre-Degree Examination in Science of an Indian University/Board or other recognized examining body with Physics, Chemistry, Biology /Bio-technology (which shall include practical test in these subjects) and English

(iii) The Pre-professional/Pre-medical Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology & English after passing either the Higher Secondary Examination or the Pre-University or an equivalent examination. The Pre-professional/Pre-medical examination shall include practical test in these subjects

(iv) The first year of the 3 Year Degree course of a recognized University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology including practical tests in these subjects provided the examination is a University Examination and further that applicant has passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and English.

(v) B.Sc. Examination of an Indian University provided that applicant has passed the B.Sc. Examination with not less than two of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology)/Bio-technology and further that he/she has passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English

(vi) Any other examination which in scope and standard (Last 2 years of 10+2 Study comprising of Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology; which shall include practical test in these subjects.) is found to be equivalent to the Intermediate Science Examination of an Indian University/Board, taking Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology including practical tests in each of these subjects and English.

Appearing candidates: Those taking the qualifying examination prior to the competitive test or those awaiting result may also apply for AIPMT. However, such applicants will not be eligible for admission to MBBS/BDS, if he/she does not pass the qualifying examination with the required pass percentage of marks at the time of first round of allotment by personal appearance.

Marks requirement: Applicants must have passed in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology at the qualifying examination and in the competitive entrance examination. SC/ST/OBC applicants need only 40% marks for Physics, Chemistry and Biology /Bio-technology together in the qualifying examination and competitive entrance examination. For persons with locomotory disability of lower limbs, the minimum marks would be 45% for General-PH and 40% for SCPH/ST-PH/OBC-PH. Students of Indian Nationality educated abroad seeking admission to Medical colleges in India must have passed in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and English upto the 12th standard level with 50% marks and their equivalency will be determined as per regulations of the Medical Council of India and the concerned University.

Reservation: 15% seats are reserved for SC candidates, 7.5% for ST candidates and 27% for non-creamy layer OBC candidates in Central Educational Institutions only as per Supreme Court order dated 10.04.2008. Reservation would be applicable to the castes mentioned in the Central list of OBC. 3% seats are reserved on horizontal basis for PH candidates. The reservation will be made as per 2200 point reservation roster. The mode of implementation of reservation will be available at www.mohfw.nic.in

Submission of Application: A candidate can apply for the All India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Entrance Examination in the online submission mode or in the the Offline submission mode.

Online Application Forms: Application can be submitted online at http://aipmt.nic.in/aipmt2011/aipmt/online/instruction.aspx till 5 pm on 31.12.2010. The fee of Rs.700/- (General /OBC)/Rs. 350/- (SC/ST) has to be remitted by Credit card or through Demand Draft drawn in favour of the' Secretary, C.B.S.E., Delhi', on any Nationalized bank, payable at Delhi. Applicant should write the name, address, contact number and Application number on the back of the Demand Draft. After submitting all the required details as per the instructions given at the site, applicants are required to take a print of the Online Application. The print out of the computer generated Application Form should be sent by Speed Post / Regd. Post to reach the Board on or before the last date.

Offline Application Forms: For those desirous of applying offline, the Information Bulletin containing Application Form can be obtained on payment of Rs.800/- (General/OBC)/Rs. 450/- (SC/ST) by cash, from any of the 177 notified branches of Canara Bank listed at http://aipmt.nic.in/aipmt2011/aipmt/BankForSale.pdf from 13.12.2010 to 31.12.2010. Banks will charge Rs. 5/- as Service Charge for the sale of Information Bulletin in addition to the fee.

Last date of Receipt of Application Form: Application Form and the confirmation page in case of online application, along with all the required documents should reach 'The Deputy Secretary (AIPMT Unit), CBSE, Shiksha Kendra, 2, Community Centre, Preet Vihar, Delhi-110 301', by Registered Post/Speed Post only latest by 7.1.2011.
 
Application Form will not be received personally from candidates in any case. A grace time of 15 days will be allowed from the last date of submission of the application to applicants belonging to remote areas, namely Mizoram, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Lahaul and Spiti Districts and Pangi sub-division of Chamba District of Himachal Pradesh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep.

Submission of Application with late fee: Application can be submitted online from 10.1.2011 to 17.1.2011 with late fee of Rs.500/-. In such cases, an amount of Rs.1200/- would have to be paid by General/OBC candidates and Rs.850/- by SC/ST candidates as fee which includes the late fee of Rs.500/- through Demand Draft drawn in favour of the' Secretary, C.B.S.E., Delhi', on any Nationalized bank payable at Delhi. The Computer Generated Confirmation Page of these candidates must reach CBSE (The Deputy Secretary (AIPMT Unit), CBSE, Shiksha Kendra, 2, Community Centre, Preet Vihar, Delhi-110 301), on or before 24.1.2011.

Confirmation of receipt of Application Form: Confirmation of the Application Forms received by the Board is likely to be hosted on Board's website within 15 days time from the last date of receipt of the Application Forms. Applicants may check the status of their Application Form at that time. If the status of Application form in respect of any candidate who had sent Application Form through Speed/Registered post is shown as 'form is not received', they may contact the Board latest by 7.2.2011 along with (i) Photocopy of the filled-in Application Form (ii) Original receipt issued by the Post Office for having despatched the Application Form, in case the Application Form is submitted Offline and with (i) Photocopy of the computer generated filled in Application Form (ii) Original receipt issued by the Post Office for having despatched the Application Form (iii) Proof of fee paid (Photocopy of the Demand Draft, if fees remitted through DD/Photocopy of the statement of the Card if fee is paid through Credit Card), in case Application Form is submitted Online. Request for non-receipt of Application Form will not be entertained by CBSE after 7.2.2011.

Admit Card: Admit Card bearing the candidate's roll number, name, Father's name, Category, Sub-Category, photograph, signatures, Date of Birth, language of question paper with name and address of AIPMT centre allotted, will be sent to the candidates by post. Admit card would also be made available on website. Candidate should examine all the entries in the admit card. In case of any discrepancy, the same should immediately be informed to the Board. In case the Admit card for Preliminary Examination is not received by 20th March 2011, candidates should contact the Board between 21.3.2011 and 29.3.2011 only.

In case of Candidates qualifying for the Final Examination, a separate admit card indicating the new roll number and other details will be issued. If the Admit Card is not received by 3rd May 2011, the candidate should contact the Board between 4. 5.2011 and 10. 5.2011.

Declaration of Result: Result of Preliminary Examination will be declared by the 3rd week of April, 2011 and the same will be hosted on Board's website. Candidates qualified for the Final Examination would be issued a separate admit card indicating new roll number and other relevant details. Result of Final Examination will be declared by 1st week of June, 2011 and the same will be hosted on Board's website. Board will prepare the merit list/wait list as per the directives of the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India, DGHS and MCI. There will be no separate result list of SC/ST candidates. There is no provision for re-cheking/re-evaluation or supply of photo copies of answer sheets for inspection to the candidates. No correspondence in this regard will be entertained.

Counselling: Couselling will be held by personal appearance through Video-Conferencing with the main counseling venue at New Delhi  (CHEB Building, Aiwan-E-Galib Marg, Kotla Road, Opp. Mata Sundary College for Women, New Delhi-110 002) and at Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai. Candidates should specify their counselling venue at the appropriate place in the Application Form and the same cannot be changed subsequently under any circumstances.

The National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) for students seeking admission to National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar and University of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (UM-DAE CBS) will be held on 29th May 2011. Both NISER and UM-DAE CBS have been started by Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India in 2007. Their mandate is to train scientific manpower for carrying out cutting edge scientific research and for providing input to scientific programmes of Department of Atomic Energy and other applied science institutions in the country. The test is conducted in 34 centers across India.
 
NISER offers a 5 year integrated M.Sc. programme in Biological, Chemical, Mathematical and Physical sciences. At present, NISER functions from the beautiful campus of Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar, which includes an excellent library. Degrees at NISER will be awarded by the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a deemed-to-be University within the Department of Atomic Energy.

There are 60 seats this year, including reserved seats for SC/ST/OBC candidates and persons with disability (PD) as per Government norms. Further details are available on the NISER website http://niser.ac.in

Eligibility criteria for appearing NEST
 
Students securing at least 60% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in Class XII (or equivalent) examination from any recognized Board in India are eligible to apply. For Scheduled Cast (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST) candidates and for Persons with Disability (PD), the minimum requirement is 55%. Students who have passed the Class XII qualifying examination in 2009 or 2010 or are appearing in 2011 are eligible to apply. (Where only Letter grade is given by the Board, a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent percentage marks will be required. In the absence of such a certificate the decision of the respective Admission Committees will be final.)

How to apply

(Applications can be submitted in either of the following ways: 1 or 2)

1.Online form submission is the most convenient and preferred way. Follow these steps to go for it.

i.Register yourself before you login. It is assumed that you already have an e-mail ID.
ii.Confirm your registration from a mail sent to you just after registration.
iii.Login in the NEST homepage with your mail-id and password.
iv.Fill the form and save it or, modify an already saved form.
v.Upload passport photo and scanned signature.
vi.Transfer fees or Send DD (in favour of "NEST-2011", payable at Bhubaneswar). Quote Appl.No. in both cases.

2.A letter of request can be sent to get the printed form by post. This form will have to be sent back along with DD after filling it properly. Please send a self-addressed envelop of size 30cm X 22cm.

DO NOT submit the application both by online and by post. Such forms, if found, will summarilly be rejected.

SCHOLARSHIPS & INCENTIVES

As per the INSPIRE programme of the government of India, all admitted students will receive a scholarship of Rs.5,000/- per month which should be sufficient to meet the above costs. Students will also receive a contingency grant of Rs 20,000/- annually to facilitate their academic pursuits.

There will be reimbursements for the Medical expenditures of the students. Railway & Airfare concessions may also be availed during the major vacations.

b).Get your mark sheets (to fill up academic data), Demand Draft/money transfer reference number ready before you start filling in the online form.
c). Take a printout of the filled-in form and send it along with the DD to the Chief Coordinator (address given in the NEST homepage.).

Online Application - FAQ
1. Candidates willing to accept on-line form submission, MUST have a mail-id, prior to registering themselves with NEST. NEST will NOT provide any mail-id for this purpose.

2. The e-mail id (used as your user-id) and password (whatever you wish) are required for a registered applicant to fill-up, modify and print his/her form till the last date of online form submission.

3. Registration is a process in which the e-mail id and preferred password are saved in a database so as to identify the unique applicant through a simple process of login.

After clicking the link to get registered, a registration requisition form comes up. One has to enter his/her Name (exactly as in the class X certificate), e-mail id, preferred password (not necessarily the one which is used to view the inbox of that e-mail id) and a secret code (the text in a picture format). After submitting, a mail goes to the registered e-mail id where a confirmation link has to be clicked.

4. It is possible to fill-up the form in fragments. Even one can save a blank form first and enter his data in next login. It is advised to do it in one go whenever one is ready with the details.

5. One can modify his/her form as many times he/she wishes until the last date and time.

8. Login will be prohibited when and after NEST- exam starts.

9. One can write to nest@niser.ac.in regarding any problem he may encounter.

AFMC MBBS ENTRANCE ON MAY 1

The entrancee examination for admission to MBBS course of AFMC,Pune next year will be held on 1st May 2011. The rescheduled AIEEE 2011 also is on this date. The MBBS course at Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, will commence on 01 Aug 2011. Total 130 candidates (105 Boys and 25 girls) will be selected. All the 130 candidates admitted to AFMC, Pune have compulsory liability to serve as commissioned officers in the Armed Forces Medical Services on graduation. The type of commission will depend upon the vacancies available and merit-cum-option at the final MBBS examination. The liability of the SSC officers passing out of AFMC to serve the Armed Forces Medical Services would be seven years. All candidates admitted to the college are required to execute a bond to this effect for an amount of `Rs.15 lakhs at the time of joining the college. Students removed from service liability due to any reason will have to pay the bond money as per conditions laid down by Govt of India.

Ten seats are reserved for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates who also have similar service liability and have to fulfil the requirements of medical fitness, age, educational qualification and qualifying the entrance examination.

SPECIAL CONCESSIONS: The Govt will provide free accommodation and entitled rations, subsidized messing, AC 3 Tier free railway warrant from college to home and back during vacations, a book subsidy of `Rs.12,000/- during entire training period, uniform allowance of `Rs.6000/- per student during first year and Rs.1250/- per year, as maintenance allowance in subsequent years and any other misc allowances as applicable.

All candidates should be medically fit as per laid down standards for the Armed Forces. Only unmarried candidates are eligible. Marriage during the course is not permitted. The college is fully residential both for boys and girls.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION :
Applicants must have passed the XII standard/pre-professional/premedical examination or equivalent examination of statutory Indian University/Board or any other recognized Board/University as a regular student in all the subjects opted for in FIRST ATTEMPT with the subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology securing not less than 60% of aggregate marks in the three science subjects taken together, not less than 50% marks in each of the science subjects and not less than 50% marks in English. They must have also passed an examination in Mathematics at least of the matriculation standard. A graduate of B.Sc. examination with not less than two of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany or Zoology) and also must have passed the earlier qualifying examination i.e. XII standard/Pre professional (Med) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and obtained marks as stated above.

NOTE

(a) Candidates who are to appear in the qualifying examination (10+2 or equivalent) up to 01 May 2011 may also appear for the test provisionally.

(b) The following categories of students are NOT ELIGIBLE to apply :- (i) Candidates who have passed in Domestic Science, Domestic Arithmetic, Lower Math separately or in combination with other subjects like General Science, Social studies in High School/Higher Secondary (Multi Purpose) or equivalent examination (ii) Candidates who have passed only Pre-University/Pre-Degree (one year course) or Pre-Professional in Agriculture/Veterinary/Dental Examination (iii) Candidates who have passed the Pre-Professional or other equivalent qualifying examination as PRIVATE CANDIDATES.

Reuters fellowships for mid-career journalists

The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism (RISJ) based at University of Oxford, United Kingdom, has invited application for fully funded fellowships from well-established mid-career journalists from throughout the world.

Applicants must have a minimum of five years experience in any branch of journalism and demonstrate sufficient proficiency in English to be able to participate fully in the life of the programme and write a research paper in English of publishable quality.

Priority will be given to journalists proposing research projects within the areas of focus of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism. Other areas of research can be considered provided these are clearly related to the professional work of applicants and will lead to greater excellence in journalism.

Duration

Fellowships may be for three, six or nine months covering one or two terms or a full academic year respectively.  Dates of entry are agreed with the Head of the Fellowship Programme.

Funding

Awards may include travel expenses (including air travel economy class) and a modest living allowance. This arrangement is subject to variation.

Spouses and partners (including with dependents) are welcome but under no circumstances will the Thomson Reuters Foundation Fellowship Programme pay the travel or living costs of visiting spouses or dependents.

About the programme

Around 25 journalists from around the globe study in Oxford each year on Fellowships of either three, six or nine months, covering one, two or all three terms of the academic year. Fellows may join the Institute in October, January or April.

Fellows are expected to produce a substantial piece of work to an academic standard. They are required to complete an 8,000-10,000 word research paper of publishable quality either as part of the Institute's research output or independently (for example, as a survey of an important subject, magazine article or part of a book). Fellows may use multimedia in their work. Fellows have to present their research findings in a seminar open to the University.

Each Fellow has a supervisor, usually an Oxford academic specialising in the journalists' chosen subject, to advise them on their research. Fellows will also be able to approach other faculty members to supplement and inform their research, and are entitled to access to the wealth of information held in the Bodleian Library and other Oxford University facilities and resources. They will be allocated membership of Green Templeton College with Visiting Scholar status, including dining and other rights, and as such are strongly encouraged to attend university seminars, lectures and classes on all relevant subjects. Of course, Fellows are also warmly invited to participate in the numerous academic and extracurricular activities of the group of mid-career international journalists based here in the RISJ offices in Norham Gardens.

There are numerous specialist facilities within the university, such as regional centres for African, Middle Eastern, South Asian, Eastern and Western European, Japanese and Chinese Studies, and Fellows are more than welcome to take advantage of the University's language laboratory and computer services. RISJ also organises regular seminars, debates, lectures and study trips.

(b) For Physics Discipline (code 41): MSc in Physics/ Applied Physics or BE/ BTech in Engineering Physics with minimum of 60% aggregate marks. MSc applicants should have Physics and Mathematics up to BSc or at subsidiary and/or ancillary level in case of five year integrated MSc, with minimum of 60% aggregate marks in MSc as well as in BSc. Applicants opting to be considered on the basis of GATE Score should have valid GATE Score in Physics. For applicants having BE (Engineering Physics) as qualifying degree, valid GATE Score in Engineering Science is also acceptable.

(c) For Chemistry Discipline (code 42): MSc in Chemistry with Physics up to BSc or at subsidiary and/or ancillary level in case of five year integrated MSc and Mathematics up to Std. XII, with minimum of 60%* aggregate marks in MSc as well as in BSc. Applicants opting to be considered on the basis of GATE Score should have valid GATE Score in Chemistry.

(d) For Biosciences Discipline (code 43): MSc in Agriculture, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Botany, Zoology, Plant Science, Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Food Technology, Animal Science, Life Sciences and Biosciences; or BE/ BTech/ BSc (Tech) only in Food Technology with minimum of 60% marks. MSc applicants should have Physics or Chemistry or Biochemistry or Agriculture Chemistry upto BSc or at subsidiary and/or ancillary level in case of five year integrated MSc with minimum of 60% aggregate marks in MSc as well as in BSc .

Applicants opting to be considered on the basis of GATE Score should have valid GATE Score in Life Sciences or in Biotechnology. Those having MSc with specialisation in subjects like Fisheries, Horticulture, Forestry, Agronomy, Animal Husbandry, Marine Biology and Home Science etc and BE/ BTech/ MTech in Biotechnology/ Genetic Engineering are not eligible.

(e) For Radiological Safety Engineering (RSE, code 44): MSc in Physics or Chemistry with Physics and Chemistry up to BSc or at subsidiary and/or ancillary level in case of integrated MSc, and Mathematics up to Std. XII, with minimum of 60%* aggregate marks in MSc as well as in BSc. Those having MSc in Environmental Science are not eligible.

(f) For Geology Discipline (Code 45): MSc in Geology/ Applied Geology/ Applied Geochemistry with both Geology and Mathematics upto BSc. or at subsidiary and/ or ancillary level in case of five year integrated MSc, with minimum of 60% aggregate marks in MSc as well as in BSc. Applicants opting to be considered on the basis of GATE Score should have valid GATE Score in Geology / Geophysics.

(g) For Geophysics Discipline (Code 46): MSc in Geophysics/ Applied Geophysics with Mathematics up to BSc. or at subsidiary and/ or ancillary level in case of five year integrated MSc, with minimum of 60%* aggregate marks in MSc as well as in BSc. Applicants opting to be considered on the basis of GATE Score should have valid GATE Score in Geology / Geophysics.

(h) Those having MSc (by research) or PhD are not eligible.

B. Admission to DGFS

Candidates having qualifying degree in disciplines 21-29 or 41 and who meet the corresponding eligibility criteria listed above are eligible to apply for DGFS provided they secure admission for MTech/ MChem. Engg starting in the academic year 2011 in Institutes in specializations . Confirmation of MTech/ MChem. Engg admission should be communicated by July 20, 2011, failing which offer of DGFS will be withdrawn retaining their options for OCES schemes if any.

C. Age Limit (Age as on August 1, 2011)

a) General Category - 26 years,
b) OBC-29 years,
c) SC/ST–31 years,
d) Dependents of those who died in the riots of 1984 (Dep1984) -31 years,

How To Apply:
A non-refundable application-processing fee of Rs 250 ( Rupees Two Hundred and Fifty) is chargeable from the applicants in General and OBC categories. Fill in all the relevant information, paste photographs on both the copies and mail both copies to the address given in the application form. Applications invited from unmarried Male Indian Citizen.

Educational Qualifications: Qualified in 10+2 / equivalent examination with 55% or more marks in aggregate with Maths & Physics and atleast one of these subjects; Chemistry/ Biology/ Computer Science.

Age: Candidates should have been born between: 01 Aug 1991 to 31 Jul 1994 (Both dates inclusive)

How To Apply(a) Application Form: The application is to be submitted on A4 size white bond paper with one photocopy exactly as per the sample application which also available on website www.nausena-bharti.nic.in . Candidates forwarding application on any other format and candidates who send more than one application for the same entry will be rejected.

(b) Envelops: The type of entry, choice of centre and percentage of marks in 10+2 board examination is to be clearly written on top of the envelope containing the application. Envelopes should be of White colour.

Example: AA- 130 MUMBAI — 68.7 % (10+2).

(c) List of Documents: The documents mentioned in the application form are to be punched and tied firmly with a strong thread to the application.

Selection Criteria

Selection of recruits is based on the order of merit on their performance in Written Test, Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and fitness in the Medical Examinations.

Written Test:
• The question paper will be bilingual (Hindi & English) and of objective type.
• The question paper will comprise of tour sections i.e. English, Science, Mathematics and General Knowledge.
• The standard of the question paper will be that of 10+2 and the syllabus for the examination is also available on internet site www.nausena-bharti.nic.in .

• Duration of question paper will be of one hour.

• The candidates are required to pass in all sections and in aggregate.

Physical Fitness Test (PFT):

• Qualifying in Physical Fitness Test is mandatory for selection.
• PFT will consist of 1.6 Km run to be completed in 7 minutes, 20 squat ups (Uthak Baithak) and 10 Push-ups. Candidates undergoing PFT will do so at their own risk.

Medical Standards:

• Medical examination will be conducted by authorised military doctors as per medical standard prescribed in current regulations applicable to sailors on entry.

• Minimum height 157 cms. Weight and Chest should be proportionate. Minimum Chest expansion of 5 cms.

• Good mental, medical and physical health free from any disease / disability, likely to interfere with efficient performance of duties. Colour perception: CP II.

• No Cardio-vascular disease, surgical deformities like knock knee, flat feet etc. infection of ears, no history of fits or psychiatric ailment, varicose vein, corrective surgery for eye sight etc.

• Medical standard should be as per the detailed guidelines issued by IHQ MoD (Navy) in NO (Spl) 01/2008.

• Candidates are advised to get their ears cleaned for wax and tartar removed from teeth prior to examination.

Eligibility:
For admission to any of the Integrated First Degree Programmes of BITS the candidate should have passed the 12th class examination of 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Further, the candidate should have obtained a minimum of 80% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects in 12th class examination, at least 60% marks in each of the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects and adequate proficiency in English. However, admissions will be made only on his/her merit position based on the score obtained in BITSAT2011.

Only Students who are appearing for 12th class examination in 2011 or who have passed the 12th class examination in 2010 are eligible to appear for BITSAT2011.

If a candidate has taken more than one attempt in 12th class or its equivalent, only his latest performance is considered, provided this attempt has been for the full component of subjects/courses prescribed. Students who have passed 12th examination in 2009 or earlier are NOT eligible to appear in BITSAT-2011. Students who are presently studying in BITS at any of its campuses are not eligible to appear in BITSAT-2011

Direct Admission to Board Toppers:

In the past, admission process of the Institute always ensured guaranteed admission to all the students who obtained first ranks in their respective board examinations. This has given a very vital input of highly meritorious students from all over India.

First rank students of all the central and state boards in India for the year 2011 will be given direct admission to the program of their choice, irrespective of their BITSAT-2011 score as per the eligibility criteria mentioned above. Further details about this scheme will be available at BITS website by 20th May, 2011.

BITSAT-2011 Test Format:

BITSAT-2011 will be of total -hour duration (without break). The test consists of four parts:

Part I : Physics
Part II : Chemistry
Part III : (a) English Proficiency and (b) Logical Reasoning
Part IV : Mathematics

All questions are of objective type (multiple choice questions); each question with choice of four answers, only one being correct choice. Each correct answer fetches 3 marks, while each incorrect answer has a penalty of 1 mark (-1mark). No marks are awarded for questions not attempted.
