UGC - Post Doctoral Fellowship for SC/ST

The University Grants Commission(UGC) has invited applications for the award of 100 fellowships under the scheme of “Post Doctoral Fellowship for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Candidates” for the year 2010-2011.

The objective of the scheme is to provide an opportunity to unemployed SC/ST candidates to undertake advance studies and research in Science, Engineering & Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences in Indian universities/institutions/colleges on full time basis.

ELIGIBILITY:
i) The candidate must have a doctorate degree in the relevant subject preferably with published research work to their credit.
ii) The upper age limit for male applicants is 50 years as on 1st July of the year of application, and 55 years in the case of female candidates. In exceptional cases, the age may be relaxed.

NATURE OF ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE UNDER THE SCHEME:
The financial assistance available under the scheme is as follows:

Fellowship @Rs.16,000-p.m. fixed for 2 years
Contingency A @Rs.30000/-p.a. for 2 years
Departmental Assistance 10% of Post Doctoral Fellowship to the host institution
Escorts/Reader assistance @ Rs. 2000/- p.m. (fixed) in cases of physically disabled & blind candidates

HRA : Post Doctoral Fellowship provided with accommodation in hostel recognized/ maintained by the institutions may be reimbursed the hostel fee, excluding mess, electricity, water charges, etc. A certificate to this effect is to be furnished through the Registrar/Director/Principal. If Post Doctoral Fellow makes his/her own arrangements of accommodation, he/she may be entitled to draw HRA as per categorization of the cities by the Government of India. The Post Doctoral Fellow will submit a certificate for this purpose to the UGC for claiming HRA through the concerned University/Institution/College.

Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) on January 8, 2012

XAVIER APTITUDE TEST on January 8, 2012

Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT) will be conducted on January 8, 2012. The test would be coordinated by XLRI Jamshedpur on behalf of Xavier Association of Management Institutes (XAMI), an association of like minded institutes. Apart from the 16 core member institutes mentioned, more than 70 associate memebr institutes located in different parts of the country select studetns on basis of XAT scores.

Online registration for XAT 2012 can be done from September 20, 2o11 till November 30, 2011.

Eligible candidates will be called for Personal Interview session at Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata or Mumbai. Screening for interviews will be based on a candidate's past academic performance and relevant work experience. Candidates will have to meet their own travel expenses.


PROGRAMME DESIGN:
This three-year part-time programme is designed for executives, working anywhere in the country. The curriculum is as rigorous as our two-year full-time PGDM programme. The participants will reside in the campus for about 15 days at a stretch (total 8 times for the entire programme), thrice a year (15x3=45 days in a year). In the intervening period, they are expected to complete the assigned readings and projects.

Fellow Programme in Management (FPM)

ELIGIBILITY:
Postgraduates in any discipline (or professional field) related to management with at least 55% marks (or graduate engineers with at least 55% marks and having at least 2 years of work experience) are eligible to apply for the FPM. In case the score is available on a letter-grade system, the Institute expects a minimum cumulative score of 4.80 on an 8-point scale (or 6.00 on a 10-point scale). Although the eligibility criteria are defined in these terms, the Institute prefers applicants who have excellent academic record as well as rich managerial experience.

Admission Test:
You must write any one of the following written tests: CAT, GATE, UGC NET, XAT, or the XIMB Research Aptitude Test (XIMB-RAT). Candidates should have

Candidates taking the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) must have the official result reported to the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB). The GRE code number for IIMB Fellow Programme in Management is 7385.

The Master's degree or equivalent qualification/ Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification should be

a. from any of the Universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956; or
b. recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
The Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent. Candidates who are in the final year of their Master's/ Bachelor's Programmes that would make them eligible can also apply. Such candidates, if selected, will be allowed to join the programme provisionally only if they submit a certificate latest by June 30, 2012 from the Principal/ Head of the Department/ Registrar or Director of the University/ Institute (issued on or before June 30, 2012) stating that they have appeared for the examinations (including practical examinations) in all the subjects required for obtaining the Master's/ Bachelor's degree/ equivalent qualification. Their admission will be confirmed only when they submit the mark sheet and a certificate of having passed the Master's/ Bachelor's degree/ equivalent qualification referred to in the certificate issued by Principal/ Registrar of their college/ Institute. The deadline for submission of mark sheet and the certificate is December 31, 2012. Please note that those candidates who have applied on the basis of their master's degree will have to meet the 55% marks stipulation, and those who have applied on the basis of their bachelor's degree will have to meet the 60% marks stipulation. Non -fulfillment of these conditions will automatically result in the cancellation of the provisional admission.


Selection
Based on the information provided by the applicants, shortlisted candidates will be called to Bangalore for a Research Aptitude Test (RAT) and interview for final selection. Selection will be based on the applicant's performance in CAT/ GRE/ GMAT/ GATE/ JRF/ NET as applicable, past academic performance, work experience, and aptitude for research. RAT and Interviews are expected to be held in the first week of March 2012. Selected candidates are required to attend the preparatory course which is expected to be scheduled in the first week of June 2012. Registration for the programme will be during the last week of June 2012.

Financial Support
FPM students in good standing will receive a total support of Rs 2,88,000 per annum in addition to tuition waiver, to cover their living expenses, books and materials, insurance and other contingency expenses. Also during the programme the following support is available to the students.
• Start up grant of Rs 50,000 to meet expenses on purchasing hardware, software, data base etc.
National Conference grants up to Rs 10,000 each for two conferences.
• One International Conference grant up to Rs 1,00,000 on a competitive basis.

IMPORTANT

Commission take up verification of eligibility conditions with reference to original documents only after the candidate has qualified for Interview/Personality Test.

2. HOW TO APPLY:
(a) Candidates are required to apply online only by using the website http://
www.upsc.online.nic.in Detailed instructions for filling up online applications are available on the abovementioned website. However candidates residing in certain remote areas specified in Para 6 of this Notice, may also apply through offline mode, by using the New Common Application Form (Form-E) being used for examinations conducted by the Commission. This Form can be purchased from the designated Head Post Offices/Post Offices (specified in Appendix III of the Notice) throughout the country against cash payment of Rs. 30/- (Rupees Thirty Only).
Each such Form can be used only once and only for one examination.
In case of any difficulty in obtaining Application Forms from the designated HPOs/ Pos, the candidates should immediately contact the concerned Post Master or UPSC’s “FORMS SUPPLY MONITORING CELL” over Telephone No. 011- 23389366/FAX No. 011-23387310. It may be noted that all offline applications, if any, received from candidates residing in normal areas/abroad, shall be summarily rejected by the Commission. The option of offline application is
available only to candidates residing in specified remote areas.
(b) Candidates are advised to read carefully the “Instructions for filling up the Online Application Form” given in Appendix-II (A) and Instructions for Offline Applications given in Appendix II (B) of this notice.

5. MOBILE PHONES BANNED :

(b) Candidates are advised in their own interest not to bring any of the banned items including mobile phones/pagers to the venue of the examination, as rrangement for safe-keeping can not be assured.

ABOUT CBIP :
Central Board of Irrigation and Power was set up by the Government of India in 1927 for looking after the development of Irrigation and Power Sectors. ABOUT THE COURSE :
This is a modular type course of 52 weeks duration (2 semesters) covering the complete syllabus given under Indian Electricity Rules.

WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN?
The main aim of the course is to develop a pool of technically trained manpower readily available for inducting them in Operation & Maintenance of Thermal Power Stations of Indian Power Sector. The course is also open for the sponsored candidates from SEBs/ Power utilities (Public & Private).

ELIGIBILITY: B.E. or equivalent in Mechanical / Electrical / Electronics & Telecommunication / Control & Instrumentation / Power Engineering disciplines from a recognized Institution /University with minimum of 60% marks throughout in Xth / Xllth / Engg. For sponsored candidates the criteria will be 60% marks in Engg. Degree with one year exp.

SELECTION CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION
Based on the merit marks of 10th, 12th & Engineering degree.

AGE LIMIT:
For Non-sponsored candidates, the age limit is 27 years as on 26.09.2011. No age limit forthe sponsored candidates.
For Non-sponsored & Sponsored candidates:- 71,30,000.00 & ?1,50,000.00 respectively, excluding the Lodging & Boarding charges.

TOTAL SEATS: 60(Sixtv seats) (Provisional). 25% seats are reserved for candidates sponsored from Power utilities.

PLACEMENT: CBIP maintains close linkages with all Power Utilities and reputed companies of Indian Power Sector which will help for the placement of the students.

Graduate Engineer’s Course in O&M of Transmission & Distribution (2011-2012)

Courses cover mandatory requirements under Indian Electricity (Amendment) Rules, 1981.

WHY YOU SHOULD JOIN? The main aim of the course is to develop a pool of technically trained manpower readily available for recruitment to the Indian Power Sector. Besides, the course shall enhance the knowledge and skills of the engineers
sponsored by the State Electricity Boards, Power Utilities and fresh graduates/ diploma engineers.

ABOUT THE COURSE: This is a modular course of 52 weeks (PDC) and 26 weeks (O&M of T&D) duration respectively. Formal coaching will be held at Regional Institute of NPTi located at Badarpur (New Delhi), On-job training is conducted at the nearby Thermal Power Stations and the training on state-of-the-art Simulator at NPTI Faridabad/Badarpur/Nagpur. The course profile covers the mandatory requirements under Indian Electricity (Amendment), Rules, 1981, which stipulates "No person shall be authorized to operate or undertake maintenance of any part or whole of generating station of capacity 100 MW and above together with the associated sub-station unless he is adequately qualified and has undergone the specified training at a recognized Institute".

ELIGIBILITY:
1. For PDC minimum 60% in 10th and in Diploma in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Power/ Electronics/ Control & Instrumentation Engineering or equivalent. Graduate engineers are not eligible.
2. For O&M of T & D : Minimum 60% in intermiediate / Sr. Sec. and in B.e. or equivalent in Electrical/ Power Egnineering.

SELECTION CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION: Merit-% in qualifying examination.

AGE LIMIT: For non-sponsored candidates the age limit as on 30/09/2011 for PDC is 25 years and 27 years for O&M of T&D. No age limit for the sponsored candidates. Sponsered candidagtes have to send their application through their employer.

TOTAL SEATS: 80* in PDC Thermal and 40* in O&M of T&D courses. Reservation for OBC/SC/ST/Physically challenged as per Govt of India norms. 25% seats are reserved
for candidates sponsored from Power Utilities. If sufficient sponsored candidates are not available, the seats will be filled by non-sponsored candidates.
*the number of seats may be cahnged at the discretion of the NPTI management.

PLACEMENT: Many reputed companies visit NPTI for campus interviews for placement of students and placement fee is charged. Past placement has been very high so far.

There is no fee concession for any category of candidates. The cost of transportation to local industries/utilities will be Rs.4000/- .Outstation transportation/ boarding / lodging charges will be borne by the participants separately. A refundable caution money Rs.2000/- .is to be deposited at the time of joining.
