The University was established at Faridkot under an Act of Punjab State Legislature (Punjab Act No. 18 of 1998) in the name of great Sufi Saint Sheikh Farid Ganj-E-Shakar, (1173 1265 A.D.) in 1998 for purposes of affiliating, teaching and ensuring proper and systematic instruction, training and research in Modern Systems of Medicine and Indian Systems of Medicine. It is not only affiliating and examining body but also a teaching and research centre in health sciences. It is expected to play a vital role in improving the standards of medical and health education in the state and in conducting relevant research in all aspects of health sciences, basic as well as applied, which ultimately will satisfy the  health standards of the people of Punjab. It is believed that the university will be  a trend setter in developing appropriate modes and models of health care to ensure quality health care to the people.  
The University has been recognized by MCI vide letter no. V/11015/3/2000-ME (UG) dated 9th June, 2000. The UGC has also included the University in the list of recognized universities maintained by the University Grants Commission, under section 2(f) of the UGC Act. 1956 vide letter no. F.9-3/97 (CPP-I) dated 4 July. 2002 and 12 (B) of the UGC Act, 1956 vide Letter No. 9-3/97(CPP/I) dated 11.4.2011. The Regional Director. World Health Organization, Regional Office for South-East Asia, World Health House, New Delhi has also forwarded the name of the University for inclusion in the World Directory of Medical Schools vide letter No. M12/6212 dated 6 May 2002. The University is also included in the list of Commonwealth Universities and their yearbook 2001 at page No. 692 (Vol. l).  
Established with a mission to create an intellectual, academic and physical environment conducive to free flow of ideas and exchange of information between various faculties of the university, between this university and other universities of health sciences in the country and abroad, thereby opening a window to the world for the health professionals, health planners, health managers. biomedical and social scientists and educationists in health sciences of  the country. Efforts are on to establish contact with various institutions towards achieving this goal. The university is now primarily focusing on strengthening graduate and postgraduate medical education and research and evolving as a centre of excellence in a rural backdrop.

Seats: The seats of B.Pharmacy and M.Pharmacy courses will be filled up on the basis of merit in qualifying examination

B.Pharmacy (20 seats), B.Pharmacy (LEET)-20% seats of sanctioned intake (4 seats) per AICTE norms; M.Pharmacy (Pharmacology) (10 seats), M.Pharmacy (Pharmacognosy) (10 seats)

Eligibility (B. Pharmacy): Passed 10+2 examination with Physics and Chemistry as compulsory subjects along with one of the Mathematics/Biotechnology/Biology
Obtained at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidate belonging to reserved category) in the above subjects taken together

Eligibility (LEET B.Pharmacy) for direct admission to 2nd year B.Pharmacy Course: Passed D.Pharmacy course from Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) recognized Institute/University with at least 50% marks (45% in the case of candidate reserved category)

The admission to B.Pharmacy course shall be made on the basis of merit of qualifying examination 
The candidates passing qualifying examination from National Open School shall not be eligible

Eligibility (M. Pharmacy): Passed B.Pharmacy examination with at least 55% marks
The admission will be made exclusively on merit of GPAT qualified examination
The leftover seats shall be filled on the basis of merit of B.Pharmacy examination

Reservation: The reservation will be made as per Reservation Policy of Govt of Punjab

Admission Procedure: Before applying, candidate should carefully read prospectus for eligibility conditions and other important instructions

Before applying, candidate should have to deposit requisite fee in the University account through any branch of the Oriental Bank of Commerce by using specified Bank Challan form, which is available at university website www.bfuhs.ac.in and at the end of this prospectus
After depositing requisite fee in the bank account of the University, a unique Transaction ID will be issued by the concerned bank, which is required to be entered in the application form
Fee shall not be accepted in any other mode; cash, cheque, demand draft etc
Merely deposition of fee will not entitle the candidate for admission
The required application form should required to be submitted in the University by the stipulated date and time, failing which no claim of the candidate will be considered
Fee once deposited will not be refunded/adjusted in any case
After depositing the fee, the candidate must fill admission application which is available on the University website http://bfuhs.ac.in or in the printed prospectus

The last date for online applying and deposition of fee in University account is 10th July, 2012
If by mistake the candidate has filled the wrong data in online admission application form, he/she can correct the data by entering his/her registration number and password
If candidate fills online admission application form, he/she should get the printout (2 copies) of the admission application form
One printout of the online filled admission form should be sent by Post to the Principal, University Institute of Pharmacy, Sadiq Road, Faridkot after completing other formalities (affixing recent attested photographs, putting thumb impression and signatures at appropriate space), along with self attested copies of Matriculation, 10+1, 10+2 detailed marks card, Bank challan form (University copy) after depositing fee in University account and other relevant documents if any.

Admission form must reach upto 16th July, 2012

Personal appearance of candidates is essential at the time of counselling
He/she will produce all documents/ testimonials in original for verification by the Selection Committee
Failing which he/she will not be considered for counselling
Only admission application forms complete in all aspects and received in the university within stipulated time period will be considered for admissions
Candidates who are applying online are cautioned to keep his/her password strictly confidential
Registration number and password will be sent on applicant’s mobile number as submitted in online admission form
Candidates are advised to visit http://bfuhs.ac.in website regularly for updates
Candidates will be responsible for any mistakes made by him/her in his/her application form
University shall not be responsible for the same
Application Fee: Candidates who will apply online have to pay Rs 2800/- (Rs 1800/- for SC candidates) in the University account through any branch of the Oriental Bank of Commerce by using the specified Bank challan form which will be available at University website
Candidates who will buy prospectus and apply on the admission application form available in prospectus will have to pay Rs 2000/- (Rs 1000/- for SC candidates) in the University account through any branch of the Oriental Bank of Commerce by using the specified Bank Challan form which is available at the end of the prospectus
