1. Applications are invited from unmarried  male Indian nationals possessing educational qualifications and age, as prescribed below, for recruitment to the post of Navik (General Duty) and Navik(Domestic Branch) in the Indian Coast Guard, an Armed Force of the Union. Candidate can apply to any one of the posts given below:-

ELIGIBILITY
Post: Navik (General Duty)
Educational Qualification: 10+2 with 60% marks in aggregate in Maths and Physics from an education board recognised by Central/State Government.
Age: Born between 01 Feb 91 to 31 Jan 95. (Upper age relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC candidates.

Post: Navik (Domestic Branch) (Cook & Steward)
Educational Qualification: Matriculate with 60% marks in aggregate  from an education board recognised by Central/State Government.
Age:  Born between 01 Apr 91 to  31 Mar 95. (Upper age relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC candidates)

How to apply: -
(i)      Navik(General Duty):-
(a)   Applications will only be accepted ‘Online’. The guidelines to fill the application 
will be displayed on the screen and must be read by the candidate. Some of the 
important guidelines are given below:-
(i) The name of the candidate, father/mother's name and date of birth 
should be as given in the 10th class certificate. 
(ii) Indicate exact percentage of 12
th
upto two decimals and are not to be 
rounded off.
(iii) Filling up of information like personal email ID and Mobile number is 
compulsory. Candidates not having their own email address or mobile number 
can give the same of their parents or any other family member.  The date,
time and venue of the test and other information will be given in the personal 
email ID.
(iv) The candidates from remote areas where internet/email facilities are 
not available can apply by ordinary post. The format of application is given in 
para 13 below.
(v) Candidates must submit only  one 'Online' application. Receipt of 
multiple applications from the same candidate will result in cancellation of 
candidature. Candidates applying "Online" are not required to send application 
by post.(b) Procedure: -    To fill up ‘Online’ application the candidates need to logon to 
the Website www.joincoastguard.org. and proceed as given below:-
(i) Click on the 'I Agree' button and the 'Online Application' will be displayed. 
The candidates can choose two examination centres from  any one  the recruitment zone para 3 below. The centre option is to be chosen on the basis of present residential address. The candidate will be allotted any one centre for examination. Select the 'Navik(GD)' entry button and fill in all the particulars.   
(ii) Before clicking the 'Submit' button, it should be checked whether all the details entered in the form are correct as you will not be able to make any corrections after submitting the application. 
(iii) After submitting the form  correctly  an acknowledgement with a Registration number will be provided to the candidate. The filled Application Form, with the number generated will be available to the candidate to save and take a print. For candidates NOT meeting the eligibility criteria, a ‘Rejection Slip, giving the cause of rejection with the Application Number’ will be displayed. 
(iv)  After submitting online application, candidates are required to  print two copies of the application with number generated by the system.  Both copies of the print out of application duly signed with photograph are to be carried by the applicant to the recruitment centre. Out of the two copies one copy enclosed with photocopies of all required documents i.e. class 10th certificate/mark sheet showing date of birth, 12th class certificate along with mark sheet subjects, caste certificate wherever required duly attested by the Gazzetted Officer shall also be carried by the candidate and submitted at the recruitment centre. Second copy without any enclosure is to be kept with the candidate as an identity proof during the selection procedure. Any candidate who does not carry all these documents at the time of recruitment shall not be permitted to appear in  the exam.     

(c) Candidates can apply 'Online' from 08 Jun to 30 Jun 12

(ii)  Procedure for applying for  Navik (Domestic Branch):- Applications can be downloaded from the Indian Coast Guard website  www.indiancoastguard.nic.in.  and the filled application be sent by Ordinary Post only. 
(a) The application is to be submitted on plain paper in the form appended below (type written/hand written in English/Hindi) and is to be sent to the address of the respective Zonal recruitment centre.  
(b) The type of entry, choice of centre and percentage of marks  10th board examination is to be clearly written on the top of the envelope.
(c) Attested copies (not returnable) of certificates as proof of age, educational qualifications including statement of marks, caste certificate ( SC, ST, OBC as per Govt. of India format), Sports and a self-addressed (unstamped) envelop of size 22x10 cms are to be attached with the application.  All enclosures must be pinned/tagged with the application.
(d) Receipt of multiple applications for Navik(GD) and Navik(DB) branch and for different examination centres from the same candidate will result in cancellation of candidature from both.
(e)    All applications for Navik(Domestic Branch) are to be addressed to Post Boxes as given below:-

Selection Procedure:-
(a) For Navik(GD):- The 'Online' Applications will be received except the candidates from remote areas where facility of internet/email is not available  can be received through Ordinary post in the brown envelope only. The conduct of test planned during Aug/Sep 
12.  Date, time and venue of the recruitment will be intimated through personal email ID/ by post in the month of mid Jul 12. 
(b) For Navik(DB):- The application will be received through ordinary post in white envelope only. By hand, Speed post, registered post or couriers will not be accepted. 
Call up letters for eligible short listed candidates will be posted, indicating date time and 
place for recruitment tests, which are scheduled during Aug/Sep 12.
(c) The common selection procedure for both Navik(GD) and Navik(DB) are as follows:-
(i) Short-listing criteria will be based on higher education and percentage of marks in the respective categories (Gen, OBC, SC & ST).
(ii) Those who qualify written test will undergo  PFT, interview and recruitment Medical Examination (Preliminary), The testing procedure will take 2-3 days.
(iii) The written test will be bilingual (Hindi & English) and objective type.    
(iv)  The Physical Fitness Test   will be conducted for all those who pass the written test.  The PFT will consist as under:-
* 1.6 Km run to be completed in 6 minutes 30 seconds.
*  20 squat ups (Uthak Baithak)
*  10 Push ups. Candidates undergoing PFT will do so at their own risk.(v) Candidates those who qualify the above tests will be required to undergo initial recruitment medical examination at the respective recruitment centre. 
(vi) The select list will be prepared from the candidates who qualify in all the tests depending upon the available vacancies. The Zone wise select list of candidates will be displayed in the Indian Coast Guard Website www.indiancoast.nic.in in the month of Dec 12.

Medical Standards:
(i)  Minimum height 157 cms. Reduction in height for candidates from hilly areas and tribal areas will be in accordance with the Central Govt. orders.
(ii) Chest: Should be well proportioned.  Minimum expansion 5 cms.
(iii) Weight: Proportionate to height and age +_10% acceptable. Hearing: normal.
(iv) Medical examination will be conducted by authorised military doctors as per medical standard prescribed in current regulations applicable to Enrolled Personnel on entry.
(v)   Good mental, medical and physical health, free from any disease/disability, likely to interfere with efficient performance of duties. 
(vi) No Cardio-vascular disease, surgical deformities like knock knee, flat feet etc. infection of ears, no history of fits or psychiatric ailment, varicose vein, corrective surgery for eye sight etc.

* Candidates are advised to get their ears cleaned for wax and tartar removed from teeth prior to examination.

Visual Standards
Navik(General Duty): 6/6 (Good Eye) and 6/9(Bad Eye) (Candidates using glasses are not eligible for GD Branch).
Navik(Domestic Branch): 6/36(Good Eye) and 6/36 (Bad Eye)

Note:  Applicants declared permanent medically unfit by any Armed Forces Hospital in previous recruitment for the same entry in Coast Guard are advised not to apply.
(vii) Final Medical Examination:  All  shortlisted  candidates will have to undergo Final Medical Examination at INS Chilka prior to getting enrolled in the service.  Candidates found 'unfit' during this medical examination will not be considered as selected and will be returned home at their own expense. 

Training: - The basic training for Navik (General duty) will commence in Feb 2013 at INS Chilka followed by sea training and professional training in the allotted trade. Training for Navik (DB) will commence in Apr 2013. Branch/trade will be allocated as per the requirement of service and performance during basic training. Naviks are liable to be discharged as UNSUITABLE due to unsatisfactory performance at any time during the training. 

Promotion: - Promotion prospects exist upto the rank of Pradhan Adhikari with pay scale 9300-34800 plus Grade pay @ Rs. 4800/-.Promotion to the officer cadre is subject to suitability and performance.
