From the Academic Session 2004 - 05, Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) have started conducting a Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM). Since 2012-13, Indian Institute of Science Bangalore has also joined the IITs in the conduct of this test. The objective of JAM is to provide admissions to various M.Sc., Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree and other post-bachelor degree programmes at the IITs based on the performance in a single test and to consolidate Science as a career option for bright students from across the country. In due course, JAM is also expected to become a benchmark for normalizing undergraduate level science education in the country. 

The M.Sc., Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D, M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree and other post-bachelor degree programmes at the IITs offer high quality education in their respective disciplines, comparable to the best in the world. The curricula for these programmes are designed to provide the students with opportunities to develop academic talent leading to challenging and rewarding professional life. The curricula are regularly updated at each IIT. The interdisciplinary content of the curricula equips the students with the ability to utilize scientific knowledge for practical applications. The medium of instruction in all the programmes is English.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION
The candidates who qualify in JAM 2013 shall have to fulfill the following eligibility criteria for admissions in IITs.
(i) At least 55% aggregate marks (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined) for General/OBC category candidates and at least 50% aggregatemarks (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined) for SC, ST and PD category candidates in the qualifying degree.
For candidates with letter grades/CGPA (instead of percentage of marks), the equivalence in percentage of marks will be decided by the Admitting Institute(s).
(ii) Proof of having passed the qualifying degree with the minimum educational qualification as specified by the admitting institute should be submitted by 30 September 2013.
At the time of admission, all admitted candidates will have to submit a physical fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner in the prescribed form. At the time of registration, the admitted candidates may also have to undergo a physical fitness test by a medical board constituted by the Admitting Institute. In case a candidate is not found physically fit to pursue his/her chosen course of study, his/her admission is liable to be cancelled.
Note:
(a) It will entirely be the responsibility of the candidate to prove that he/she satisfies the minimum educational qualifications and eligibility requirements for admissions.
(b) The admitting institute has the right to cancel, at any stage, the admission of a candidate who is found to have been admitted to a course to which he/she is not entitled, being unqualified or ineligible in accordance with the rules and regulations in force.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR JAM 2013

The JAM 2013 exam will be held on 10 February, 2013 (Sunday) in two sessions. The schedule for different test papers of JAM 2013 is given in Table 1.   4 (REFER BROCHURE http://gate.iitd.ac.in/jam/) September, 2012  to 20 October, 2012  on  cash payment of application fee of Rs. 1200/- for General/OBC category male candidates, Rs. 600/- forSC/ST and PD  category male  candidates from the designated branches of Canara Bank as given below.

The OMR Application Form enclosed in the envelope provided with the Information Brochure is to be completed by the candidate in all respects. After reading the instructions given in Section 12, carefully fill in all the items of the form.  Fold the form only where it was originally folded. Also write the code(s) of the test paper(s) applied, and the first choice of city /town of test on the top - left portion of the envelope.
Candidates desiring to appear for a second test paper must clearly mention their option in the OMR Application Form. Such candidates are required to pay an additional fee of Rs. 300/- (Rs. 150/- for SC/ST and PD candidates) through a demand draft in favour of “Chairman, JAM, IIT Delhi”, on any Nationalized Bank, payable at Delhi. This demand draft is to be sent along with the OMR
Application Form. Female candidates are not required to pay any additional fees if they desire to appear for a second test paper. The last date of receipt of completed application form along with application fees (where applicable) is 30 October, 2012 at JAM office IIT Delhi.
10.2 Online Procedure:  The facility for Online Registration will be available through the website http://www.iitd.ac.in/jam from 20 September, 2012. The last date for submission of Online Application Forms on website is 23 October, 2012 at 18:00 hrs. A candidate can fill in electronically his/her personal data and the appropriate application fee can be paid by a Demand Draft drawn in favour of “Chairman, JAM, IIT Delhi”, on any Nationalized Bank, payable at Delhi.
After electronically filling his/her personal data  and information pertaining to the Demand Draft in the Online Application Form on the website, the candidate can download this form and take a print out of the same. The photograph, declaration and signature will have to  be provided by the candidate on the printed Online Registration Form. The photograph should be glued at the appropriate place provided in the form and must not be stapled and not be signed/attested.  The candidate must write his/her name and application form number at the reverse-side of photograph.  The candidate is advised to keep a photocopy of the completed Online Registration Form for his/her record.
10.3 List of enclosures and address for sending the completed OMR Application Form/Online Registration Form: The following documents should be enclosed along with the completed OMR Application Form: (i) Bank Pay-in-slip, (ii) Demand Draft for additional fee for the second test paper, if applicable, (iii) SC/ST Certificate (copy), if applicable, and (iv)  PhysicalDisability Certificate (copy), if applicable.

1. ELIGIBILITY:
D.M.     :  Medical graduates holding the degree of M.D. (Medicine) or M.D. (Paediatrics) or DNB in

2.  DURATION AND RECOGNITION OF THE COURSE:

 6.        SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FORMS:
i) The eligible candidates may apply by filling up  the  application form enclosed herewith in his/her own clean handwriting and all the entries in the form should be filled by the same writing material.
ii) A candidate can apply and appear for one subject only.
iii) The application must be accompanied with attested copies of all the mark sheets / certificates / degrees / registration number certificate  and other documents (from High School to MD/MS/DNB)
iv) The completed application form in all respects along with all necessary enclosures should reach the office of
Director, IMS – BHU on or before Friday, 7th September, 2012, 5.00 PM. The envelope containing the application  should  be  superscribed  "APPLICATION  FOR  D.M./M.Ch.  COURSE  AUGUST  2012".
Applications sent by Fax, E-Mail, Photocopies or any other form will not be entertained. Only the original Application form and form downloaded through BHU website will be accepted.
v) Duly completed application must be accompanied by a MICR Demand Draft drawn on a nationalized bank and payable at Varanasi in favour of DIRECTOR, IMS, BHU of  Rs. 2000/- (Rupees Two Thousand only).
Demand Draft submitted with this form includes examination fees and is not refundable in any case.
vi) Candidates who are in service of Government/Semi-Government/Statutory Body must apply through proper
channel with Sponsorship Certificate from the Employer on the proforma as provided in the application form.
vii) Incomplete applications in any respect will be summarily rejected and no correspondence in this regard will be entertained. Applications received after the last date will not be entertained on any ground including
postal delay.
viii) All passport size photographs must be self attested, identical, snapped with front profile, showing full head, face, shoulder and with both ears and taken without wearing any Cap/Hat/Sun glasses. 8. SELECTION:
    
The candidates will be selected for registration/ admission on the basis of their aggregate of marks and number of attempts in MBBS, MD/MS, and the marks obtained in the interview to be held on 15.9.2012 in the chamber of the Director, Institute of Medical Sciences, BHU from 9AM onwards.

9. GENERAL:
i) The sponsored/deputed applicants will be treated as supernumerary candidates and in case of their selection and registration/admission and joining for the course, they will not get any payment from the Institute/University.
ii) No private practice of any kind shall be permitted during the entire duration of the DM / MCh course.
iii) The decision of the Director, Institute of Medical Sciences, B.H.U., shall be final and binding on the candidates in respect of the Admission test.
iv)       The selected candidates will have to appear before the admission committee for counseling  and also required to sign a bond on non-judicial stamp paper of Rs. 100/- (to be purchased from Varanasi or 2any district of State of Uttar Pradesh) on the format to be supplied by the Directorate before he/she is permitted to join the DM / MCh course.
v) The admission and continuance of Registration/Residency of the candidate shall be subject to the BHU  Act, Statutes, Ordinance, Rules and Regulations and orders as may be applicable from time to time and  the aforesaid bond. The registration/ admission may be cancelled without any notice if the supervisor of  the Department is not satisfied with the work and/or conduct of the candidate.
vi) The decision of the Postgraduate Medical Board / Faculty of Medicine, Institute of Medical Sciences -BHU in all the matters of admission/registration shall be final and binding on the candidate.
vii) Mere submission of application and appearing and qualifying in the Admission test will not entitle the candidates to claim admission in any of the above course. The candidates must note that if it is found that he/she is not eligible for the Admission test, the Directorate will not issue the Admit Card and will not take any responsibility in this regard. 
viii) No TA/DA will be admissible for appearing in the Admission test, and for joining the course.
ix) Candidate will have to submit documentary proof at the time of admission / registration that their medical degrees are recognized by MCI.

B. RELAXATION IN MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY FOR SC/ST/OBC/OBC MINORITIES/PC CANDIDATES: 
(i) In the case of SC/ST candidates, there will be no requirement of minimum percentage of marks in the aggregate in the qualifying examination except that they must have passed the qualifying examination. (ii) For OBC and PC candidates, there will be a relaxation of 5% marks in aggregate in the qualifying examination in minimum eligibility requirements, in comparison to general candidates. 
C. RESERVATIONS

(i) Seats shall be reserved for scheduled caste (15%) and Scheduled Tribe (7.5%) candidates in each course. The SC/ST candidates shall have to submit a certificate, issued by competent authority, stating that the candidate belongs to SC/ST.  Such certificates shall be subject to verification from the concerned District Magistrate.  
(ii) There exists reservation of seats (3%) under physically Challenged category (Horizontal basis) (i) 1% for Visually Impaired. (ii) 1% Hearing Impaired & (iii) 1% for Orthopaedically Handicapped for admission to the above Courses.  Such candidates will have to submit a self attested copy of Disability Certificate issued by the District CMO with the Application Form. The candidates called for counseling for possible provisional admission will be examined by a Medical Board constituted by BHU and if necessary, will be referred by the Medical Board to other recognized bodies for the purpose, as per criteria fixed by the University. The decision of the Medical Board constituted by BHU will be final.
(iii) There is age relaxation of 5 years for 'Physically Challenged’ candidates in upper age limit wherever upper age limit is prescribed.
(iv) 27% Reservation to candidates belonging to OBC category (excluding under creamy layer) will be provided in different courses. The caste in the OBC certificate will be those only which are in the list of Central Govt. Further, the OBC Certificate should clearly mention that the candidate is not under creamy layer.

D.   ADMISSION OF FOREIGN NATIONALS

Provision to the extent of 15% supernumerary seats for Foreign Nationals exists: Out of which 5% seats shall be filled up by children of NRI’s [Persons Indian origin (PIO)] and 5% by children of India workers in the Gulf region and South Asian Countries. b) Application Form can be downloaded from the BHU Website (www.bhu.ac.in.).  There will be no sale of application form from the Office of the Controller of Examinations, BHU.
c) The candidates shall submit the duly filled up application form, alongwith prescribed enclosures and application processing fee, to (i) the Head, Department of Telugu, Faculty of Arts (for Diploma Course at Sl.No.1 in Section A above); (ii) the Coordinator, Bhojpuri Adhyayn Kendra, Faculty of  Arts (for Certificate Course at Sl.No.2 in Section A above); (iii) the Coordinator, DST-Centre for Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences (CIMS), Faculty of Science (for Diploma Course at Sl.No.3 in Section A above); and (iv) the Dean, Faculty of Law (for P.G. Candidates to note that only MICR Demand Draft/Banker’s Cheque (issued by a Bank) shall be accepted.  The applicant is advised to write his/her (a) Name, (b) Name of the Course on the reverse of the MICR Demand Draft/Banker’s Cheque. The Application Processing Fee paid shall neither be refunded nor transferred to another course and shall also not be reserved for any subsequent year, in any case.

Diploma Course at Sl.No.4 in Section A above), respectively,  BY THE LAST DATE, i.e., 24.08.2012.
